Responsibility

Sustainability — Core Value of HEMPEA

For me, sustainability isn’t just a separate aspect of our business that needs to be developed. Sustainability is the foundation of HEMPEA’s operations.

Hemp — A Natural and Eco-Friendly Material

All HEMPEA products are made from 100% hemp.

Hemp is one of the most eco-friendly textile fibers. Typically, it does not require pesticides or artificial irrigation to grow. Hemp cultivation improves soil quality and sequesters a significant amount of carbon as it grows.

In our products, we use both natural, undyed hemp fabric and hemp fabrics dyed with non-toxic, water-soluble dyes.

The hemp fabric we use in our sheets is OEKO-TEX certified, meaning it contains no harmful chemical residues.

Sustainable Production in Europe

The hemp fabrics we use are made in Europe, from the cultivation of hemp to the production of hemp yarn and the weaving of the fabric. Learn more about the origin of our hemp fabrics on the page: What is Hemp Fabric?

I have chosen materials produced in Europe to ensure they are sustainable from both an ecological and ethical perspective. Materials produced in Europe result in fewer emissions from transportation, among other benefits.

Designed to last

HEMPEA products are made to last, both in terms of quality and style.

I have selected only the highest-quality hemp fabrics, which are beautiful, soft and comfortable, yet durable.

In product design, I take into account both timeless style and durable choices in the details. In the construction and stitching of the seams, we focus on durability and practicality. We do not use buttons, drawstrings, or zippers that can come loose or break during use.

The simple, timeless design fits into your home year after year. Our collection is permanent, and the color tones complement each other. All products go together, and you can add an item to them even after years of use.

My goal is to make products that will be used for years to come.

Zero-Waste Design

We strive to minimize waste at every stage of production.

Product design is done in such a way that no or very little surplus fabric is generated during production. Leftover fabric scraps are utilized in products such as the Aivi hand towel and Maares napkins, or through our partners. For example, the corner pieces of fitted sheets are turned into cleaning cloths in collaboration with Candle Light Story.

We inspect returned products and resell them whenever possible. We sell second-grade products in clearance sales.

Sustainability in Different Areas

We send order confirmations electronically at the time of ordering, which reduces paper use.

Orders are packed in cardboard boxes. We do not wrap products in plastic.

We recycle our waste.

We plant a tree for every order

We plant a tree for every online order in partnership with Tree-Nation. This is my way of making a tangible contribution to mitigating climate change.

Planting a tree doesn’t require any action on your part, but if you’d like, you can log in to the Tree-Nation website to track the growth of your tree.

You can view the growing HEMPEA forest here.

Planting trees does not replace Hempea’s efforts to reduce emissions, but it is one way to take responsibility and have a positive impact on the environment.
