We had our fabrics tested - the results surprised us

25.6.2026 Important notice regarding the materials of HEMPEA fabrics.
Over the past few months, I have been investigating the origin of our materials. As part of our commitment to sustainability, I wanted to verify that our materials match what we have ordered.
Unfortunately, the investigations revealed that some of our fabrics are 100% linen, not 100% hemp, as they have been sold to us. This was confirmed by laboratory tests conducted on our fabrics.
How could this have happened? Hemp and linen are very similar, and they can only be reliably distinguished from one another through microscopic fiber analysis.
This information is extremely serious to me, a huge shock and disappointment. I have built Hempea’s operations around hemp, striving to act as responsibly and transparently as possible. I therefore want to share this information openly now that we have received the test results and confirmed which fabrics and fabric batches are affected.
In the future, we will conduct regular fiber testing on our fabrics.
All incorrect product information has been updated, and we will sell out all products affected by the incorrect product information.
The incorrect material information applies to the following products:
- All Pielpa waffle fabric products (towels, poncho towels, bathrobes, blankets)
- Dune natural-colored beige sheets and Dune-colored thin towels sold between 02/2025 and 05/2026 (pillowcases, sheets, duvet covers, tablecloths, Aivi small towel, Ailigas bath towel)
- These products are 100% linen, not 100% hemp
I am truly sorry for the confusion and disappointment will cause our customers.
I want to sincerely thank all of our customers and partners during this difficult time. I ask for your understanding and patience while we work to resolve this matter.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
With best regards,
Marja-Maija Valtonen | HEMPEA
